An “artist of refined taste and musicianship” (Strad Magazine), cellist LOUISE DUBIN has recently performed at venues and festivals including Norfolk, BargeMusic, Tanglewood, Savannah, Garth Newel, and Caramoor with Daniel Hope, Philippe Muller, Stephanie Chase, and many other artists. With Stefon Harris’ African Tarantella nonet she toured Carnegie Hall, Jazz Standard, and Chicago’s Symphony Hall. Recital in France at SalleGaveau, Reid Hall, CRR (all in Paris), and the International Cello Festival (Beauvais). She's premiered 4 works by Roger Stubblefield, most recently his Divertissement for Cello and Orchestra in New York (2023), dedicated to her. Formerly Principal Cellist of Charleston Symphony and Auckland Philharmonic, she now performs closer to home, in Broadway shows including solo cellist at Radio City for the past four years, Baltimore and NJ Symphonies, and other ensembles. Her album The Franchomme Project (Delos) was acclaimed in Canada, UK, France and the US, where Strings Magazine called it a "rare musical treat that unfolds with radiant energy.” In 2025 she released Passages (Bridge), “an intriguing collection of hidden gems with accomplished performances” (Strings Magazine). “From the gravity of the Chopin, to the grace of the Franchomme, to the aggressive nature of the final Caprice by Philippe Hersant, her expressive details do the music full justice” (The Classical Music Sentinel). A much in-demand festival guest artist, Novacek appears at Scotia Festival, Colorado College, Stanford (St Lawrence Quartet Seminar), Mimir (Fort Worth & Melbourne), Festival Mozaic, Toronto Summer Music, Music in the Vineyards, Ottawa Chamberfest, Festival of the Sound, Great Lakes, SummerFest La Jolla, Seattle, Cape Cod, Caramoor, Braunschweig, Lucerne, Menuhin Gstaad, Verbier, Stavanger, and BBC Proms. Chamber music collaborators include Leila Josefowicz, Lynn Harrell, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Cho-Liang Lin, Emmanuel Pahud, Jeremy Denk, Renaud Capuçon, Truls Mørk, Matt Haimovitz, Elmar Oliveira, and Dmitry Sitkovetsky, and the Emerson, Ying, St. Lawrence, Miro, Afiara, Alexander, and Tokyo String Quartets. As composer, Novacek has received commissions from St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Eastman School, Schubert Club, Seattle Chamber Music Society, Seattle Commissioning Club, 5 Browns, Ying Quartet, Quattro Mani, Ensemble Liaison, Manasse/Nakamatsu Duo, Concertante, and the Three Tenors. A Steinway Artist, Novacek teaches piano and chamber music at Mannes School of Music in New York City.
