Composer and cellist PAUL BRANTLEY to present a CONCERT SPIRITUEL
Paul Brantley will be joined by pianist Steve Beck, classical guitarist Dan Lippel, cellist Laura Metcalf, and soprano and alto-flutist Alice Teyssier, in a program of vocal and chamber pieces. This concert is modeled after the 18th century Parisian, Concerts Spirituels, which were designed to uplift and edify the public with “spiritual” music. The program will include the premieres of Brantley’s Mystery Sonata for cello and piano, which he composed in memory of his mother, as well as Peter Quince at the Clavier (with some Ives transformations) for soprano, cello and piano. The complete version of Brantley’s "chapter sonata" for solo guitar, KITHARA, will be premiered along with the revision premiere of Apollo Architectons: builder of shelters and bridges, for alto flute and guitar. All along the concert will be framed and interwoven with 16th century “Bicenia.”
