Sacred Music at Columbia: Francis Phan-Thanh — Solo Piano Recital

Free and open to the public; no tickets needed. FRANCIS PHAN-THANH presents a solo piano recital, with music by Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Debussy, Messiaen, Gershwin, Chopin, and Scriabin. Francis Phan-Thanh, a French-born  pianist,  was on a Fulbright Program from France to US and graduated from the class of Mr. Gyorgy Sandor at The Julliard School. He started to study the piano at the age of seven  at the conservatories of Toulouse and Reims and then at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris before studying in United States at The Juilliard School and in the Russian Federation at the Summer Academy of the State Tchaïkovsky National Conservatory in Moscow with Professor Mikhail Voskresensky. His performances include concerts tours in US (New York at Alice Tully Hall, Paul Hall, Columbia University, New York University, Washington DC at the French Embassy, Ann Harbour), Europe (Paris Salle Gaveau, Moscow Rachmaninov Hall, Brussels, Krakow, Tallinn, Helsinki, Athens, Vercelli), China (Beijjing at French Embassy), Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya), South Africa (Pretoria) and he was a laureate of several international piano competitions (Michigan/Young Keyboard, New Orleans and Ibla in Italy, Sicily). He also was a laureate of several Foundations which include the French-American Foundation in New York, Fondation Singer-Polignac and Fondation Samson François in Paris, France. He taught piano and chamber music in master-classes in Japan during 3 years, in France at the National Conservatories in Strasbourg and Paris 16th. His CD recordings include works by Bach, Brahms, Bartok, Messiaen, Fauré, Roussel, Takemitsu. Later, he studied the National public Law at Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne University and graduated from the National Political Institute Studies in Paris (Sciences Po) to become a Judge assessor, appointed by the State Council at the national Court of asylum right in Paris, which is his current administrative Position. His most recent concerts include the Rachmaninoff 3rd Piano concerto with Orchestra in Metz (France).
