Vita Wallace & Hayden DeWitt: Vine & Fig Tree

September 28, 2021
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
America/New_York
St. Paul's Chapel, 1160 Amsterdam Ave., New York, NY 10027

Mezzo-soprano Hayden DeWitt and pianist Vita Wallace, with guest artists Margaret Cuonzo and Mark Ettinger, offer an eclectic and exuberant program celebrating love and verdant abundance. Inspired by a Biblical image, we dwell on a vision of peace and plenty attained through love and justice for all, including Mother Nature. Lush art songs by Schumann, Brahms, Vaughan Williams, Alma Mahler, and Mark Ettinger are interspersed with fervently simple Shaker songs and two songs by Derek Henderson which were commissioned especially for this program.

Hayden DeWitt has sung with many of New York's "grass roots" opera companies and, in particular, enjoys collaborating on projects that are slightly "off the beaten track," like this song recital. Vita Wallace is known as a powerful, sensitive, and versatile musician, most often heard playing the violin. Hayden and Vita have been making music together for nearly 20 years. They recently collaborated with Margaret Cuonzo, of The Accord-O-Leles, on the program "Let's Take a Walk: through Meadow, Grove, and Thrift Shop."
