Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon: 1000 Women in Religion Project

October 16, 2019
12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
America/New_York
The Burke Library, 3041 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 Conference Room, L3 (Third Floor)
The 1000 Women in Religion Project, a major initiative of the American Academy of Religion/Society of Biblical Literature’s Women’s Caucus, is working to add biographies to Wikipedia, where over 80% of biographical entries are about men. A deficit of reliable sources about women important to the history and ongoing unfolding of the world’s religious and wisdom traditions makes it difficult for our wiki-editors to meet Wikipedia’s sourcing and notability standards for submission. Come create and edit Wikipedia pages on women (including transgender women, nonbinary and genderqueer persons) in support of our effort to address this systemic gender bias. Learn how Wikipedia works and join its community of editors. Novices are welcome. Snacks provided. Bring your lunch, and bring your own computer, or email [email protected] to request a temporary work laptop for the session. Students, faculty, and members of the public are welcome (registration required for anyone without a Columbia or UTS I.D. card). Please RSVP/register below to reserve your spot, mark your calendar, and receive reminders and updates. To edit Wikipedia content you must create an account in advance, new editors can read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Contributing_to_Wikipedia (attendees do not have to edit Wikipedia pages; visitors can come and observe, do research, and offer support).
