The Office of Religious Life has been partnering with Columbia’s many schools and student groups in recent years to expand prayer, meditation, and reflection spaces across our campuses. From large and long-established spaces like the nave of St. Paul’s Chapel, to newer and smaller spaces like the Butler Library meditation room we seek to ensure that all who desire it can find spaces for reflection and prayer according to their practices. Our list of spaces includes rooms on the Morningside, Manhattan, and Medical School campuses.
All of these spaces are open to individuals and groups from any faith tradition, or of no faith tradition. All are welcome. Some of them, like our newly renovated rooms in the lower levels of St. Paul’s Chapel and Earl Hall, are designed to meet the needs of specific religious communities. Recent collaborations with our Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim student organizations have led to the expansion and improvement of spaces that serve the particular needs of their communities. Our campus spaces are in addition to our affiliated centers off-campus, including Chabad House, The Merton Institute, and the Kraft Center, and to those of Barnard, Union Theological Seminary and Teachers College.
We encourage all who are interested to visit our spaces any time and to continue sharing with us ways that we can support space needs for our community.
