Two Sacred Music Premieres Win Prizes

Two pieces of new music premiered at Sacred Music at Columbia this spring recently won significant prizes.

Amelia Brey’s “Ar(i/e)as for wind quintet,” premiered at Arts at Earl, recently won the BMI Foundation Student Composer Award.

And Julian Bennett Holmes’s Piano Trio (Tropo sul Ritornello di Madrigal di Francesco Landini, “Non a Narcisso fu più amar lo spechio”), premiered at Music at St. Paul’s, won the Society for New Music 2019 Brian Israel/Sam Pellman Award.

This is an honor for the concert series, and the fall concert season will feature many more premieres.
