MIRA DAVIS and ANNIE BELIVEAU will perform on the Common Ground series. Each singer will perform a solo set, followed by an on-stage discussion of music and religion.
MIRA DAVIS is a current student in the H. L. Miller cantorial school at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She is also serving as the Cantorial intern at Congregation B’nai Amoona in St. Louis, as well as the Brotherhood Synagogue in Gramercy Park, Manhattan. Mira recently graduated from Columbia University where she majored in music, with a specialty in vocal performance. Mira was interested in music and theatre from an early age. She joined her first choir at her synagogue, Congregation Agudath Israel in Caldwell, NJ, when she was six years old. Mira was also in the choir at her high school and was a member of HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir, as well as their chamber choir.
While at Columbia, she joined two Jewish choirs in New York: Zamir Chorale and Zamir Noded, in which she currently serves as peer coordinator. She has sung solo at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and on the Metropolitan Opera stage.
ANNIE BELIVEAU is a singer, conductor, composer, and scholar from northern Vermont. She has particular interests in performing early and new vocal music and situating music in history. While earning her degree in Music from Middlebury College, she took the opportunity to study abroad in Oxford, England for a year. There, she conducted detailed research into medieval English plainsong witnesses with the help of Professor Matthew Cheung Salisbury. Her research culminated in a senior work project that included a lecture-demonstration, an essay, and a performance of original compositions inspired by medieval musical processes. After graduating, Annie moved to New York City to pursue collaborative projects with groups including Choral Chameleon and Yasna Voices, the New York Bulgarian Women’s Choir. She remains involved in liturgical music as a member of the Schola Cantorum at the Church of St. Thomas More in Manhattan.
