With the fall semester fully underway, the Office of Religious Life would like to share with our community the campus events planned for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.
Sukkot is one of the major festivals in Judaism and is a celebration of thanksgiving and a commemoration of the 40-year period during which the People of Israel wandered in the desert after leaving slavery in Egypt, living in temporary shelters as they traveled. It a holiday marked by many in our community through gathering for communal meals, prayers, mindful contemplation, and celebratory gatherings.
This year, the Kraft Center for Jewish Life, Columbia/Barnard Hillel, will host a sukkah available to all students, faculty, and staff, for the duration of the Sukkot holiday, beginning the evening of October 6 and lasting through the evening of October 14. Located on Fairchild Plaza (east of Uris Hall and between Fairchild and Schermerhorn), the sukkah will host programming throughout the holiday. This sukkah will be the only such structure located on Morningside campus. Any unauthorized structures on our campuses will be removed by Public Safety.
Additional sukkah options around campus will be located at:
- The Kraft Center
- The Chabad House
- Jewish Theological Seminary
- Barnard College
